The Kebab and Calculator
fromThe Young Ones
Boring
£28.00 – £30.00
I want a pint of water in a straight glass, a bag of roast ox crisps… aaand mine’s a Babycham.
Any even moderate fans of The Young Ones will undoubtedly be aware of the Kebab and Calculator. It’s the pub that the boys head to in an attempt to vanquish their boredom. Needless to say – it doesn’t work. This is despite not only encountering Madness on entering the establishment, but also happening across Vyvyan’s mother. Who promptly steals all his jewellery.
Now, the K+C (which they’re not calling it) *does* have a visual representation in the show – it’s a bit of a literal affair with a calculator being pierced by a kebab skewer – so we’re looking at another one of those rebrand situations. The show was first broadcast in 1982, so you’d assume the pub to have moved on somewhat since then.
I’m not waling on the literal, you understand. My version is the shape of a döner kebab with a load of maths characters in it. The subtle nuancery is real. That’s what forty-odd years of brain power does for you. Astonishing stuff.
This is actually the second design from the same episode, as well. Can’t have been that Boring in the end then, can it?
