Did you enjoy the film or did it have too much false opposition? Or was it too paradox for you? I thought it had great energy. No, no, no, no, no. I’d rather see Dave Lee Travis play Macbeth.

The first thing I’d like to say is that Paul Calf’s Video Diary is currently up on YouTube, so please go and watch that immediately. I suspect that you’ve already seen it, otherwise it might be a bit weird you being here. it’s always worth revisiting, though. Always.

So, Le Cinetheque. It’s an arthouse cinema in Manchester that Paul briefly works at in order to impress a checkout girl called Emma, who he’s trying a rebound on after Julie dumps him for Gary. Despite Paul’s hatred for students, Emma is one. As is / was Roland – a scruffy, bespactled man he and Fat Bob (Bob the blob. Fat blobby bastard Bob) befriend throughout the duration of the diary, and the person who recommends the job. Paul tries to impress her with his knowledge of foodstuffs in the venue’s veggie cafĂ©; taramasalata*, houmous and mung bean salad.

I got worried that Le Cinetheque was already a place but thankfully it isn’t. The only representation they’ve got is chalk-based on a specials board, so clearly nothing definitive. I had to do quite a bit of research on cinemas in Manchester because I’m not paricularly familiar with the area, what with being a soft Southern shite (I also own Liverpudlian parents, so am probably not welcome up there). There are numerous art-y cinemas in the city but a few of them were chains, so I wanted it a bit more boutique / unique than that. Then I stumbled across the CULTPLEX and the job was done. It’s not a blatant rip off, obvs, but definitely pointed me in the right direction.

I did consider creating the VHS tape ‘Lesbian Fruit’ from the show, but quickly dismissed it for fear of being put on the register. Also, I can’t find the Chuck Norris film they talk about in the classic drunken fight scene. Forgive me, but you’ve got shit shoes on, you shitty-shoed bastard. Class. Is it even real or did they make it up?! Let me know if you know.

*As a long standing vegetarian / vegan (sorry), I’d like to point out that taramasalata is made out of cod roe, so has never been vegetarian. Take that, 1993!
